Life with the Boys Lately: The Double Stroller Edition

Image
Eat, Live, Run Life with the Boys Lately: The Double Stroller Edition Well, this post has been a long time coming! We have been through quite a few strollers in our parenting journey thus far and it’s something you guys ask about often so I am excited to share this post today. First, some history. We started out with an Uppababy Vista stroller when Grayson was born and loved it. It was a gift from my parents and it always served us well. I figured that when the time came around for us to shop for a double, I would just get the rumble seat attachment and be set. But then Grayson and I were in a pretty bad car accident last year and we lost the stroller. I didn’t care at all because WE were fine. It could have been a lot worse. Stuff is stuff. Anyway, I was pregnant at the time so we figured “since we’re buying a new stroller anyway, we might as well buy a double since we will need in a few months”. We bought a City Mini Double. I really liked the Ci...

Slow Roasted King Salmon

Image
Eat, Live, Run Slow Roasted King Salmon Happy Tuesday! I made this salmon early last week and have just been dying to share it with all of you because of how darn EASY it is. If I’m being honest, it’s not really my recipe but I don’t really think it’s a real “recipe” to begin with, as it is a method. A wonderful method, at that. Basically, all you do is slide a beautiful piece of salmon into an ultra-low oven for an hour and walk away. That’s pretty much it. The salmon cooks very, very slowly and thus, stays incredibly moist. I got the idea for this because this is the way they prepare salmon at Chez Panisse. And if you know anything about me, you know my intense love affair with Chez Panisse. I have loved that restaurant from a far since I was a little girl and it had always been my big dream to eat dinner there. And when I say “little girl”, I mean I was maybe nine years old. Seriously. I dreamed that one day I w...

3 Compelling Reasons to Schedule More Nothing

Image
Be More with Less 3 Compelling Reasons to Schedule More Nothing Mark and I celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary this weekend doing a whole bunch of nothing. We napped, watched the waves  roll in, enjoyed long walks, took pictures of sea lions, read and napped some more. We didn’t do anything that anyone would consider productive, yet all of that nothing was life-giving. Our long stretch of doing nothing reminded me of the importance of making room for little pockets of nothing every day. If we don’t take time to do nothing, we compromise everything. 3 compelling reasons to schedule more nothing 1. Emergencies and surprises are out of your control. Test fate and plan your day, hour by hour. Don’t leave any room in between tasks, appointments or commitments. Emergencies and surprises consider this an invitation to show up and blow up the notion that you think you run the world. Instead leave a little room for nothing. The nothing may turn into something and you’ll ha...

Blueberry Cornbread

Image
Eat, Live, Run Blueberry Cornbread Today is our anniversary! Happy four years to us. 🙂 Here’s the post I wrote about our wedding with tons of photos if you’re into that kind of thing. And here’s some honeymoon recaps if you’re bored. Paris. The Riveria. Montreux, Switzerland and the Alps. My big advice to those getting married? PLAN AN INCREDIBLE HONEYMOON. Seriously. We literally talk about how amazing our honeymoon was every day and how it was the best money we have ever spent. We got pregnant two months after getting home and our whole world changed forever…the memories we have of newlyweds on our honeymoon still remain some of our very best memories.  I still need to get some photos printed from our trip, actually. Just thinking about it makes me want to get back over there — I miss Europe!  Anyway, sorry I got off on a tangent there. I went down a rabbit hole this morning looking at wedding photos and just wanted to share. But...

7 Simple Ways to Be More You

Image
Be More with Less 7 Simple Ways to Be More You Have you ever felt like you’ve let life turn you into someone else? Have you forgotten what your heart wants because of what life demands? Have you compared and competed yourself into someone you don’t recognize? Or, are you too busy and overwhelmed to even notice who you’ve become? Maybe you know exactly who you are, but many of us have experienced a disconnect and are looking for a way back. This isn’t about finding yourself. It’s about remembering who you are. I am always learning something new about how simplicity works on my heart, changes my relationships and influences my work. At first my journey was focused on tasks like decluttering, paying off debt, and downsizing. The changes started on the outside, but the real work was happening on the inside. With each thing, obligation, or assumption I let go of, I remembered who I was. I saw how far I had strayed, and made it a priority to come b...

Shrimp Scampi with Zoodles

Image
Eat, Live, Run Shrimp Scampi with Zoodles Hello there, May I offer you some extremely buttery, garlicky, lemony shrimp over zoodles this morning? Okay good, thanks. But seriously, shrimp scampi has always had a place in my heart as one of my favorite meals. If you’ve been a reader since the beginning, you may recall the recipe for “engagement scampi” back in 2008. 2008! I can’t even. We go back way back, people. Anyway, I named it that because a reader emailed me and told me her boyfriend popped the question immediately after eating a plate of this. It really was, and still is, that good. So good, in fact, that I decided it needed a revamp. A summery revamp over — you guessed it — zoooooooooodles! I love busting out my spiralizer in the summer when the zucchini is going crazy in the garden.   Using zoodles instead of traditional pasta in this recipe really lightens it up and makes it absolutely perfect for summer. This is a quick 20...

Sleep During the Day May Throw Genes Into Disarray

Image
Web MD+ ッ Sleep During the Day May Throw Genes Into Disarray Study might explain why health problems are more common among night workers -- Sleeping during the day -- a necessity for jet-lagged travelers and those who work overnight shifts -- disrupts the rhythms of about one-third of your genes, a new study suggests. What's more, shifted sleep appears to disrupt gene activity even more than not getting enough sleep, according to the research. For the new study, which was published in this week's issue of the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, British researchers put 22 healthy, young volunteers in a dimly lit sleep lab for three days. During the first day, they disrupted the participants' sleep at regular intervals to reset their body clock to its innate rhythm. On the second and third days, the volunteers ate and slept on a 28-hour schedule, so their longest period of sleep was from noon until about 6:30 p.m. The researchers drew blood sampl...
